Good morning, Maybankers.

Have you ever heard about The Spotlight Effect?

The spotlight effect is a term used by social psychologists to refer to the tendency we have to overestimate how much other people notice about us. In other words, we tend to think there is a spotlight on us at all times, highlighting all of our mistakes or flaws, for all the world to see.

For example, if you wake up late and go to work with disheveled hair, you may be convinced that everyone is noticing and secretly thinking badly of you. You may blush or try to hide from your coworkers, convinced that they are pitying or mocking you.

There are some ways that we can practice to minimize the effect of the spotlight effect. For example, you can overcome the spotlight effect by focusing your attention outward and noticing other people's reactions to you. This will both help you to stop focusing inward on your anxiety, as well as notice how little other people are actually paying attention to you.

Have a great day, everyone! :)

Good morning, Maybankers

Self-compassion is simply the process of turning compassion inward.  We are kind and understanding rather than harshly self-critical when we fail, make mistakes or feel inadequate.  We give ourselves support and encouragement rather than being cold and judgmental when challenges and difficulty arise in our lives. Research indicates that self-compassion is one of the most powerful sources of coping and resilience we have available to us, radically improving our mental and physical wellbeing. It motivates us to make changes and reach our goals not because we’re inadequate, but because we care and want to be happy.

Have a great day, everyone! 🌻

Ramadan Mubarak 🌙

On the occasion of Ramadan Kareem, we wish you a fruitful month full of blessings and happiness. May our striving in Ramadan be accepted and granted all the good thing that we seek. Have a wonderful Ramadan and a blessed Eid.

Ramadan Mubarak to you, Maybankers!

Hi Maybankers!

Ramadan is just around the corner! Here are some fun facts about Ramadan, Muslim's Holy Month:

1. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islam calendar, a holy month designed for prayer and fasting.

2. It begins and ends with the shape of the crescent moon, which is why Ramadan is not set on any specific days annually.

3. Each year, the day it starts and ends changes as it goes with the moon calendar. Depending on the region, it may even change the dates on which Ramadan is celebrated.

4. The idea behind fasting is to practice self restrain, which is one of the pillars of Islam.

5. Fasting is done from dusk till dawn.

6. Every Muslim that has reached puberty, and is physically capable, is required to fast.

In today's fast-paced and demanding environment, resilience is a valuable attribute not only for individuals, but also for organisations. Resilience is a key attribute that empowers us to manage stress, overcome adversity, and adapt to and recover from disruptive events, such as natural disasters, economic downturns, or pandemic. It’s not just an individual trait, but also a vital element for building strong and sustainable businesses. At Maybank, we believe that building resilience is crucial for long-term success, and that’s why we are thrilled to welcome Ms. Maria Plengsangtip to this year's IWD noon talk session.

Join us for an hour of learning as she dives into emotional regulation, cognitive flexibility, and social support, and shares practical tips on how to develop your own resilience. This session will be held on 13 March, from 12 P.M. to 1 P.M.

Good morning, Maybankers!

It’s no secret that people shy away from taking time off to address mental health needs or concerns. Whether we are suffering from an illness or feeling overworked or overwhelmed, sometimes we just need a mental health break from work.

A mental health break could be as simple as taking an hour to meditate or a day off from the stress of work. Taking a mental health break is important for recuperating and avoiding burnout, especially in demanding work environments.

Here are some guidance that we can follow to rake mental health break.

Have a great day, everyone! ✨

Good morning, Maybankers 🌻

Research suggests that one of the most effective ways to alleviate stress, worry, and general anxieties about our life is to practice more deliberate kindness and self-compassion. When we say affirming things to yourself, or look beyond the difficult moment toward the bigger picture, it draws our attention away from what we can’t control and pushes us to focus on what we can. In turn, we are likely to understand what we need to cultivate more joy, gratitude, and satisfaction in our life.

So, here are some reminders for ourselves to always provide the love that we deserves 💛

Have a great day ahead 😊
