美国经济学家认为，美国候任总统特朗普的对华贸易战可能最早在他一上任就开打，直接把对进口中国产品的关税税率提高至40%左右，并逐步提高到60%。40%的关税可能会导致中国这个世界第二大经济体的GDP增长减少大约一个百分点。
