Bitcoin slips 0.4% to $64,284.84 as bond yields ease from multi-decade highs

Bitcoin traded down 0.4% at $64,284.84, while global markets took a brief pause after days of turmoil. US equity futures steadied, European stocks snapped a five-day losing streak, and bond yields pulled back modestly, though traders remain wary of fiscal deficit concerns, AI-related debt issuance and Middle East tensions.

The US 30-year Treasury yield fell 2 basis points to 5.27%, after climbing to 5.34% the prior session — near its highest level since 2007. The 10-year yield slipped 1 basis point to 4.69%. Gold hovered around $4,340 per ounce after its biggest one-day drop in nearly a month.

Brent crude rose for a fourth straight session, trading above $91.30 per barrel, with a 4.5% gain over the previous three days. Iran reportedly launched two ballistic missiles toward the UAE, its first known attack on the Gulf state since May, while the Strait of Hormuz situation remains unresolved.

SK Hynix buyback lifts chip sector after US selloff

US stocks suffered their biggest one-day drop this month on Tuesday, led by chip shares. SK Hynix announced a $28.6 billion stock buyback plan — repurchasing and canceling 40 trillion won in shares while committing at least 50% of cash flow to shareholders — reversing an intraday drop of over 8% and providing support to Asian chip stocks. SanDisk, Western Digital and Micron each rose about 2% premarket, with Seagate up about 1%.

AI coding tool helps Chinese sheep farm manage 10,000+ livestock

Xixianji, a mutton producer in Ningxia's Yanchi County, has built its livestock management system using Alibaba's AI coding tool Qoder. The company maintains around 12,000 sheep in stable operation, with annual output of 30,000 to 40,000 head.

General manager Zhang Lifei, a former Huawei and Ericsson R&D engineer, built the system alone in his spare time over three months after the 2026 Spring Festival. The system covers feed management, cost allocation, slaughter processing and product pricing, with development costs totaling tens of thousands of yuan versus million-level quotes for traditional custom software.

Zhang aims to reduce feed waste by about 10% once the system matures, though the target still requires a longer operating cycle to verify. He cautioned against overstating the achievement, saying he is "just starting to do his own thing."

Bitcoin holds near $64,250 as chip stock selloff leaves crypto untouched

Bitcoin traded near $64,250 on Wednesday, up marginally on the day and 1% on the week. Solana led majors with a 2% gain to nearly $77, while ether added 1% to just over $1,900 and leads the week at 1.5%.

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both fell more than 7% in Seoul, sending Korea's Kospi down over 6%. A global bond selloff pushed 30-year U.S. yields to their highest since 2007, with the 10-year yield easing about a basis point to 4.69% on Wednesday.

Fed minutes are due at 2 p.m. ET, with markets putting odds of no rate change in September at about 68%.

Fu Peng: AI productivity narrative enters a window of waiting for falsification

In a year-end review, macro commentator Fu Peng said the core theme of the past cycle — productivity gains from AI — has entered a mid-game phase, with 2026 H1, especially Q2, showing that big tech's free cash flow has gone to zero after years of heavy capex, forcing a shift from internal funding to external financing.

He noted that with rates high and valuations stretched, external funding means equity or debt, and investors will ask whether the money can be earned back. The market turned fragile, and from June to July 2026 a full transmission chain played out — from macro and liquidity tightening to the industrial layer and finally high-leverage liquidation at the market level.

Fu said AI coding tools remain at the efficiency layer, not the application layer, and true enterprise-scale vertical applications are still missing. He cited data showing China's token usage is the world's largest, but coding accounts for only 15%. He described the current phase as a window period — once results appear, capital will return, similar to how ChatGPT in 2023 ended the prior drawdown.

He also warned against inertial thinking at major cycle turning points, citing his earlier call that US 10-year yields would stay around 4.2% over 3-5 years. The biggest cycles, he said, are productivity, production relations and institutional order, plus demographics.

Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade breaks the 21,000 gas rule for ETH transfers

Sending ETH to a brand-new address will cost more than sending to an existing one under Ethereum's next major upgrade, Glamsterdam. Transfers to existing accounts will still cost 21,000 gas, but payments to never-before-used addresses will incur an additional 183,600 units of new "state gas."

Ethereum Foundation developers warned wallet providers, blockchain trackers and fee calculators to update software built on the assumption that 21,000 gas is both the minimum and maximum for ETH transfers. The change reflects the extra work of creating and permanently storing a new account, and any software treating 21,000 as a fixed fee could reject valid payments or quote fees that come up short.

Glamsterdam goes live Thursday on the Platåberget testnet, then reaches Sepolia and Hoodi before mainnet. No ETH users need to act this week.

Bitcoin holds $64,000 as 30-year Treasury yield hits highest since 2007

Bitcoin traded near $64,100 on Tuesday, up 1% on the day and holding above $64,000 even as rising bond yields and climbing oil drained appetite for risk assets, per CoinDesk data. Ether held near $1,893, with Hyperliquid the week's outlier, up 8.3%.

The 30-year Treasury yield rose to 5.33%, its highest since 2007, while Brent crude topped $91 a barrel as the US-Iran conflict escalated. S&P 500 futures fell 0.5%, heading for a third straight day of losses.

Bitcoin is up on the day and green on the week while stocks fall and yields hit generational highs, a relative firmness that fits the returning-ETF-demand thread. A break above $64,500 would strengthen the case that fresh buyers are absorbing the macro pressure.

Monad Foundation completes up to $60M buyback offer for early investors — nearly all declined

The Monad Foundation said Tuesday it finished a program offering to buy locked MON tokens from select early investors at a discount, setting aside as much as $60 million. Almost all of those approached chose to hold, and the foundation did not disclose the price offered, how much was spent, or how many participated.

Repurchased tokens remain locked on their original vesting schedule, so the program does not accelerate supply hitting the market. MON traded around $0.021, roughly 16% below the $0.025 public-sale price, with about 11.8 billion tokens circulating against a fully diluted value near $2.1 billion. Monad-based DeFi deposits climbed to about $895 million from roughly $360 million on July 2, an increase of almost 150% in about six weeks.

The foundation said the offer aimed to provide liquidity to early investors whose plans had changed while keeping long-term holders aligned.

Bitcoin tops $64,000 as only major with daily gain

Bitcoin rose above $64,000 on Tuesday, up over 1% on the day and marginally higher on the week, while most other large tokens slipped or were flat. Ether eased half a percent to just under $1,900, XRP fell over 1% to just under $1, and Dogecoin dropped almost half a percent to 7 cents.

Analysts said bitcoin remains stuck between $62,000 and $65,000 and below key moving averages, leaving sellers in control of medium- and long-term trends. Publicly listed miners have cut combined computing power by 21% over three quarters as they redeploy capacity to AI infrastructure, according to Miner Weekly, which attributes the shift to weak mining economics and competition from the AI sector for capital and electricity.

Oil rose above $91 a barrel after President Donald Trump signaled he would not extend an agreement with Iran, pressuring bonds and stocks amid renewed inflation worries.

Bitcoin rises 2.38% to ~$64,322 as geopolitical risk lifts oil and long-end yields

Bitcoin climbed alongside gold as US-Iran ceasefire tensions escalated, with both assets drawing safe-haven and hedge demand. The move came as the 30-year Treasury yield hit its highest level since 2007, a signal markets read as a potential policy misstep.

WTI crude rose 2.00% to $84.05, Brent gained 2.82% to $91.02, after the US-Iran ceasefire memorandum expired Monday. President Trump said he would not extend the deal and threatened to bomb Oman if it blocked US control of the Strait of Hormuz, while an Iranian official told Reuters Tehran had shifted from defense to "full attack."

The 30-year yield rose 5 basis points to 5.31%, the highest since 2007, with the curve steepening sharply. Spot gold gained 0.88% to $4,415.31, breaking above $4,400.

US stocks fell for a second straight session, with the S&P 500 down 0.50% to 7,746.97 and the Nasdaq down 0.31% to 26,646.74. Storage and optical communication chips rallied against the trend, with SanDisk up 8.88%, while Microsoft fell 3.04% and Meta dropped 3.54%.

China targets 4.4B tonnes of oil equivalent domestic supply by 2030

China's NDRC and National Energy Administration released the 15th Five-Year Plan for oil and gas, targeting domestic supply of 4.4 billion tonnes of oil equivalent by 2030, with 20,000 km of new long-distance pipelines and a national network reaching 220,000 km.

The plan also targets natural gas storage exceeding 13% of national consumption, LNG receiving capacity of 200 million tonnes per year, and 114 billion cubic meters of annual pipeline gas import capacity. CCS/CCUS annual CO2 injection is set at 10 million tonnes.

The plan calls for maintaining oil reserve replacement ratios above 1, boosting exploration in key basins including Ordos, Bohai Bay, Sichuan and Tarim, and supporting private capital participation in non-strategic pipeline and storage investment.

Bitcoin tops $64,000 in Asia morning hours as HYPE jumps 8% on the week

Bitcoin crossed $64,000 in Asian morning hours Monday, up half a percent on the day but down almost 3% over the week, as a softer dollar and fading rate-hike bets failed to lift crypto out of its recent range. Ether rose over 1% to just under $1,900 but is down 1% over seven days, while solana edged up to just over $75 and XRP traded marginally to $1.

Hyperliquid's HYPE was the standout performer, up over 3% to $59 and almost 9% on the week, the only major with a meaningful weekly gain. Dogecoin added almost 1% to 7 cents, tron under half a percent to just over 33 cents, and BNB slipped marginally to just over $604, flat on the week.

The macro backdrop turned friendlier without moving crypto. A Bloomberg gauge of the dollar slipped 0.1% toward a third straight decline, while MSCI's emerging-market currency index hit an intraday record. Swaps traders now put the chance of a Federal Reserve rate rise next month at around one in four, down from about 50% a week ago, after U.S. retail sales showed the sharpest monthly drop in more than a year.

Analysts say fading optimism, weaker exchange-traded fund inflows and uncertainty ahead of this week's FOMC minutes and a White House crypto meeting are keeping markets subdued. The minutes, from the Fed's July 28-29 meeting, are due Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET.

BofA: Best 'AI bubble' trade is long 'hubris' and long 'humiliation'

BofA Securities chief strategist Michael Hartnett said the optimal play in the current AI bubble is to be long both "hubris" — AI tech leaders — and "humiliation" — beaten-down assets the market has ignored — to capture gains in the final blow-off phase of the nominal GDP bubble. The bank's bull-bear indicator eased to 9.3 from 9.7, still in extreme bullish territory and holding a "sell" signal.

Fund flows showed sharp divergence over the past week: tech funds saw their largest weekly outflow in seven weeks, gold posted its biggest weekly inflow since January, commodities are up 58.9% year-to-date, while Bitcoin is down nearly 28% this year. BofA flagged three constraints on the bull market: surging bond yields, cautious voters, and broadly long positioning.

The bank recommends shorting AI bonds, citing over $1 trillion in capex combined with negative net cash flow. BofA also noted US debt is approaching $40 trillion, with the 30-year Treasury auction clearing at a 25-year high yield of 5.126%. On the "avoid the dollar" theme, it recommends long gold and long Hong Kong property, with the Hang Seng property index trading at roughly 12x earnings.
