Hello there from prison
HELP!
I was reading in the middle of night when six ginormous cockroaches scurried around and tried to make their way into my cell!!! HELP!!!
The staff went by and saw the cockroaches but did not give a damn!!
I said to the staff, “Help me kill those cockroaches!!!”
The staff replied, “I'm a Christian. I don’t kill animals.”
I was stunned. Well, since I'm a Christian as well, I prayed, "God, may the staff be moved by Your Spirit so he can smash the cockroaches, else I can’t sleep at all! Amen!"
The staff replied bluntly, “I am not moved by the Spirit.”
So, he left.
I set up a defense line at the gate with liquid hand soap and shampoo.
Unfortunately, I only got two hands. I was about to smash all four cockroaches when they rushed through the line, but then two more also rushed in!!! Darn it!!!
The cell was filled with slapping sounds. Three went out. Three remained inside.
One went under my bed. I deployed fire tactic immediately. The smothering smoke forced them out. Yeah! I tossed my slipper towards them. Bingo! One got hit. Two more to go.
The staff went by numerous times, looked at me, and could care less.
Two more were still inside my cell…. HELP!!!
Finally, the staff spoke to me, "Son, use talcum powder. They are scared of it."
I was pissed. "Why didn’t you tell me earlier, old man??"
The staff replied, "Well, seems like you were having fun." I was speechless.
Wow! They were really frightened of the talcum powder! Now they were covered in powder like snow, attempting to escape in vain. Haha!!! Double-slipper attack!!! Pak Pak! Certified!!
Finally, I could sleep tight ~~ at 5:30 am.

Hello there from prison
I’m bored to death! Haven’t even made a single sound the whole day.
I’ve been moved by the staff again, this time to cell no.9. So now I know handfoot KK is in cell no.10.
That explains why I haven’t seen him for so long. He doesn’t go out. He stays in his cell 24/7. You’ve got to admire his level of tolerance!
KK is optimistic. He has exceptional endurance. He asked me to name his daughter, so I suggested: “Sou Ho”. Its sound is taken from “Five Demands, Not One Less” (In Cantonese it is Ng Dai “Sou” Kau, Kuet Yat Bat “Ho”). He is not the biological father of his daughter. His girlfriend eventually dumped him and turned state witness.
I was worried about him. But he seemed okay. “Since nothing can be changed, I’d rather face it. Maybe it’s more relieving this way.”
He has a point. Confined behind the walls, we can’t help with many things. If we can’t change the situation, we’ll change our mindset.
In the past month B has lost his family member, KK and KW have both gone through a lot……, everyone has sacrificed so much.
Handfeet! We’re like a family, at times we argue, at times we pick on each other; sometimes it’s funny how we help each other out without even saying. Maybe that’s what we call “a community of common destiny”.
On this day next year, we probably would have been sentenced. We’ll go different ways and cherish this moment in our hearts.
Since my move to cell no. 9, I sense something different about KK. He started talking to himself. Holy cow! Being put in solitary confinement this long is driving him crazy! Handfeet, please help me search on the internet the effects of solitary confinement!

Hello there from prison
YEAH! YEAH!
This is definitely worth celebrating: According to the UN Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, Rule 44, “.... Prolonged solitary confinement shall refer to solitary confinement for a period in excess of 15 consecutive days.” Although this rule is not applicable to the Correctional Services Department Prison rules, I’m going to congratulate myself for having been confined alone for 15 days. YEAH! “Prolonged Solitary Confinement” is my proud status.
My daily routine:
Folding blanket is a MUST. One time I folded my blanket in a ratio of 16:9, and I got reprimanded right away. A 4:3 ratio1 is strictly enforced. Am I in military service?
The prison security guards investigate the cells 3 times a day (we call it “Tek Dau” or “Kicking nest”) – once in the morning, once at noon and once at night.
During the senior staff’s patrol, we are obliged to say: “Good Morning”. There are two patrols in the morning and one in the afternoon.
The doctors will walk pass the cells every morning, thus there is no need to go to the hospital when you get sick.
Designated “room service” for the three meals. Water will be brought to the cells on a regular basis.
One-hour communal time.
Mail will be picked up and delivered to the cells. Newspaper will also be delivered.
Except for the one-hour communal time, I must spend the remaining 23 hours in the cell alone.
During the social visits, (“bai san” in Cantonese, which means “tomb sweeping”), official visits, and lawyer’s visits, I will be escorted by a team of Special Duty Officers (SDU). I can go directly to the visitation room without waiting. One time on my way to the visitation room, an inmate approached me. The staff chewed him out immediately, “Stand still! Give way!!!” Another time, also on my way to the visitation room, an inmate asked when I could go “downhill” (i.e., to be removed from solitary confinement). The staff yelled, “No talking allowed!” (As I was not allowed to socialize with other prisoners.) When did the CSD staff become so dedicated to their jobs?
I spend my time in the cell reading books, jotting notes, reading letters and writing back, reading newspapers, and listening to the radio. If I get tired, I can take a nap anytime.

Having been moved to the 7th floor, I can only rely on my own will power. There are no handfeet here, no chatting, no socializing.

1 TVs only come in an aspect ratio of 4:3, not 16:9. Pillow must be stacked on top of the folded blanket.
